Eight-week product MVP

A named engineer ships one product slice in eight weeks. The scope is written first. A success check says whether it worked. Your team leaves able to run it.

What you get

You get one product slice in eight weeks. We write the scope before anyone builds. A success check says whether that slice worked. A named person on our side and a named person on yours own the work. At the end, your team can run it without us in the room. The fourteen-day starter, with a short feature list and a fixed price, is the fourteen-day MVP. The broader way we prove a product in production is MVP development. This engagement is the eight-week shape: fixed scope, a check you can run, owners, and a handoff into your team. Same idea, other angles. A first iOS or Android app users can actually run is Ship a mobile app MVP. Senior builders who own the first release with you are Hire founding engineers for your MVP. A first clinical workflow under HIPAA is Clinical workflow MVP. We have been shipping software since 2002.

If you are still arguing staff aug versus a fixed-scope build, pick the shape first. It is not a quote. Engagement model picker.

What we hand back

A written eight-week scope

A success check you can run

Named owners

A handoff your team can run

Why teams call Maxiom

Eight weeks only counts if someone can say it is done.

The build has no finish line

Work starts, features keep getting added, and week eight looks like week one. A fixed scope is the finish line. Anything new waits for the next slice.

Nobody can say whether it worked

A demo can look finished and still fail the reason you started. The success check is written in week one, and someone runs it before the handoff.

The builders leave and the team cannot run it

If only the people who wrote it can deploy, you rented a product. The handoff names who on your team runs the next small change.

How an engagement works

Kickoff

  1. 01

    Align

    First call · 30 minutes

We look at the slice you want in eight weeks, what done means, and whether this shape is the right one.

    • The one path a user has to finish
    • What must be true on the last day
    • Whether a shorter starter, or people on your team, fits better

You get: a clear yes or no on fit

  2. 02

    Scope

    NDA · written plan

You get a written slice: what is in, what is out, the success check, and the two names who own it.

    • Deliverables, the eight weeks, and a named engineer
    • NDA signed before access
    • The success check, in words a product owner can run

You get: a committed written scope

  3. 03

    Execute

    Eight weeks

The named engineer builds that slice, with checkpoints you can inspect. New ideas go on a list. They do not enter the eight weeks.

    • The path in the scope, and nothing beside it
    • Checkpoints you can open
    • Client code stays in your environment

You get: progress you can inspect

  4. 04

    Handoff

    Your team runs it

We run the success check with you, walk through the product, and leave a person on your team who can ship the next small change.

    • The check, passed or failed, in writing
    • A walkthrough and the repo
    • Who runs it the week after we leave

You get: a product your team can run

Frequently asked questions

The first conversation is scoping. Stack, constraints, and whether we are the right fit.

What is an eight-week product MVP?

One product slice, built in eight weeks, with the scope written first. You get a success check, a named owner on each side, and a handoff so your team can run it. It is a finished slice, with a date, and a person who receives it.

How is this different from the fourteen-day MVP?

The fourteen-day MVP is a small starter: a short feature list and a fixed price. This engagement is eight weeks, with a success check and a handoff into your team. If the slice is truly that small, start with the fourteen-day page. If you need owners and a check you can run, start here.

How is this different from MVP development?

MVP development is the broader way we prove a product in production. This page is one shape of that work: eight weeks, a fixed scope, a success check, named owners, and a handoff. Use the broader page when you are still choosing the shape. Use this page when eight weeks is the shape.

What is the success check?

A sentence you can run in the last week. One user path works in your environment. A named person on your team can deploy a small change. The reason you started is true, or it is not, and we write that down. A demo that looks finished is not the check.

Who owns the work?

Two names. One engineer on our side, who builds the slice. One person on yours, who accepts the scope and receives the handoff. If either name is "the team," the scope is not ready.

What does the handoff include?

The repo in your environment, a walkthrough, the success check marked pass or fail, and the name of the person on your team who runs the next small change. If only we can deploy, the handoff is not done.

What is in the scope, and what is out?

In: the one path we wrote down, the check, and the handoff. Out: the next idea, the extra screen, and the integration that was not in the first call. Those go on a list for a later slice. They do not stretch the eight weeks.

What if this is a mobile app, a founding hire, or a clinical workflow?

Say so on the first call. A first iOS or Android app users can run is Ship a mobile app MVP. Senior builders who own the first release inside your team are Hire founding engineers for your MVP. A first clinical workflow under HIPAA is Clinical workflow MVP.

How do we start?

A 30-minute scoping call. Bring the path a user has to finish, and the name of the person who will run it after we leave. We will tell you if the right next step is these eight weeks, the fourteen-day starter, or someone else. You can contact us or use the form on this page.

Not sure this is the right engagement? That is what the first conversation is for.
